Storage & Handling
Best Practices
Follow these guidelines to preserve compound integrity and maximize research accuracy.
Long-Term Storage: Freeze
Store lyophilized (dry) peptides at -20Β°C (standard freezer) for long-term stability.
Many peptides can remain stable for 12β24+ months when kept frozen and dry.
Use a dedicated freezer or a section with stable temperatures β avoid frequent door opening.
Desiccant packs in storage containers help prevent moisture damage.
Reconstituted Peptides: Refrigerate
Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2β8Β°C (standard refrigerator).
Reconstituted peptides are generally stable for 4β6 weeks when refrigerated.
Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles after reconstitution β this degrades the compound.
Label vials with the date of reconstitution for accurate tracking.
Handling Best Practices
Always work in a clean, dust-free environment.
Allow frozen vials to reach room temperature before opening to prevent condensation.
Use sterile technique: clean surfaces, gloves, and sterile needles/syringes.
Never expose peptides to direct sunlight or high heat β UV and heat accelerate degradation.
Avoid vigorous shaking. Gently swirl or roll vials to mix.
Reconstitution Protocol
Use bacteriostatic water (BW) or sterile water for most peptides.
Inject the diluent slowly down the side of the vial β do not blast it directly onto the powder.
Gently swirl (do not shake) until fully dissolved. Some peptides may require a few minutes.
For accurate dosing, calculate the concentration: e.g. 5mg peptide + 2ml BW = 2.5mg/ml.
Use insulin syringes for precise measurement of small volumes.

Handling Terminology

Lyophilized (Lyophilization)
A freeze-drying process that removes water from a peptide to produce a stable powder. Lyophilized peptides are far more shelf-stable than reconstituted peptides and are the standard form for research compounds.
Reconstitution
The process of dissolving a lyophilized peptide powder into a liquid solution (typically bacteriostatic water) to prepare it for use in research applications.
Bacteriostatic Water (BW)
Sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which inhibits bacterial growth. It is the preferred diluent for reconstituting peptides because the preservative allows multi-dose use.
